So-kyokushin Bury St. Edmunds

We are the oldest established karate club in
Bury St. Edmunds

BSE 50 year badge

We practice Kyokushin karate, a style formed to bring back the truth to karate that has, over the years, been watered down, compromising it into a sport, or worse, to make money from awarding belts.

We are a “not for profit club”, the training fees pay for hall rent, licence fees, equipment and insurance. They do not go into the instructors’ pockets.

Learn karate for self defence

Kyokushin karate is a martial art whose purpose is to provide a method of self-defence- not a way of scoring points or showing off flashy kicks.

“Karate is Budo and if Budo is removed from Karate, it is nothing more than sport karate, show karate, or even fashion karate-the idea of training merely to be fashionable.” -- Mas Oyama
